Navel-Gazing. No, Wait.. A Little Lower.. (#515)
06.14.06
I was originally going to make this a rant about my relationship with my own parents, their expectations of me, and how I've let them down. But once I started writing it, I realized that it's a much deeper topic than one comic's commentary could capture - and something which deserves at least a couple of comics in an arc-to-come. Sorry Mom and Dad.

Living in the Northampton, MA area you get a skewed sense of gender priority - something which I'm pretty sure I've mentioned before. In a place with an abnormally high lesbian population, two all-girls schools within 20 miles of each other, and the liberal views inherent to the Northeast, it's not TOO far fetched for someone to spend their collegiate career dwelling on something like "women's studies." The sleight of it is that if you're born and raised around here, or at least easily indoctrinated by the culture, you get to believe that such a study is actually useful and commercially viable. Then when you get out into the rest of the real world, you realize that you've just wasted the past four-or-more years of your life staring at your crotch when you could have been learning something useful.
Feminism is a good thing - I'm all for the ladies. But making it the prime and solo focus of your life? Kind of a waste.
